Danish Transgender Painter

“My name is Lili, Einar is dead”

I would like to write about film, it’s called Danish Girl. The film is based on fictional novel of the same name “Danish Girl” and inspired by the lives of Lili Elbe and her wife Gerda Gottlieb. They both are Danish painters and  Elbe was a famous transgender and one of the first identifiable. She was born as male but during (her) life, she made risk decision. Finaly, she took sex reassignment surgery. Lili was born Einar Magnus Andreas Wegener and she was famous with name before surgery. Elbe and Gerda , they meet each other at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen, and they married in 1904. They both traveled through Italy and France. The most interesting story is about their relationship. Elbe started become model of her wife. She was asked to wear stockings and heels so her legs could substitute for those of the model. Elbe felt surprisingly comfortable in the clothing and very love it. Gerda became famous of that paintings about woman. Many people didn’t know that pantings are about her husband Einar (Elbe).

This film is very recommended, so classic and magnificent. For me about this film is one of my favorit. Maybe during watch it , you can laugh, cry and so much deep emotion. It “I believe I am a woman,” Lili says.

Meanwhile in my country Indonesia, LGBT issues have been dominating national debate in my country. Nowdays in Indonesia most of people talk about LGBT. Did you know? LGBT issue here is like an ice berg. Couple years ago, people wont’t talk about it openly and because they said it’s still taboo issue sometimes they don’t care. In modern Isamic country like Indonesia, LGBT people are legally labeled as mental illness and not protected under the law. They said: We can heal them with marriage and some “religious medicine”. The strongest opposition against the recognition of LGBT rights in Indonesia has come from religious authorities especially Islamic organization. Indonesian Ulema Council (Majelis Ulama Indonesia or MUI). Just yesterday, MUI has made statement that LGBT are haram, it’s forbidden.
